Alternative Story Formats

What is an Alternative Story Format?

An alternative story form is a story in a magazine that does not take the reader long to sift through. Think How-To's, Timelines, Comparisons, etc. They have the ability to give the reader lots of information in a visually appealing, easy-to-grasp format--which is very different from the long narratives that invite a reader to grab a cup of tea and nestle in for a good read.

Discussion Questions:
1. For any ASF, what is the first thing a reader will see? What hooks them first?
2. Do infographics rely on sources of information like longer narrative articles do? If so, how?
3. How can you use professional infographics as a resource for your own ASF design?
4. What is the ultimate goal of any infographic or ASF?

For your ASF, you will find important information for your reader that lends itself to a quick read. Once you have an idea, use this form to prepare a proposal for your instructor. Proposals are due on Monday, September 30, 2013.
