Electronic Magazine Classroom Procedures
First things first: Let's get organized and in the mind frame of creating a publication. Below, you'll find out about our daily class procedures, a couple of things you'll need in class, and policies in place for the semester and your GPA to run smoothly.
Let's not forget the most important thing, though: Students must bring a permission form home to get signed by their parents/guardians. A signature indicates that parents and students a) understand class expectations and procedures, b) approve student name, picture and work will be posted online and c) will replace/repair any equipment that is damaged or lost while in possession of student.

CLASS RULES
1. In seat by the time class begins.
2. No food or drinks at the computers. Only small snacks are allowed away from the computers. Bottled water is permitted away from the computers with an appropriate lid.
3. Keep hands and objects to self. Students must keep their hands to themselves. Please respect classmates' personal space and belongings.
4. Follow directions and exhibit good manners. Students must be on task. Students must respect their classmates by using proper communication and actions.
5. No talking when teacher talks. Students must not talk during teacher instruction.
6. Cell Phones may not be used during class unless the student has received permission from the instructor, as well as has a valid educational reason to do so. In the event a student is seen using a cell phone in class without meeting the above requirements, the school cell phone use policy will take effect.
7. Do not install or download items directly to the computers in the lab.
Because students are at an advanced magnet school, there is an expectation of being well-mannered and mature. LASA teachers enjoy calling and emailing parents, so when they contact yours, wouldn't you love for them to brag on you!
In the instance students fail to follow any of the above expectations in an E-Zine lab, the following will happen:
1st offense: a warning
2nd offense: loss of computer privileges for 20 minutes
3rd offense: loss of computer privileges for the whole period and an email to parents explaining the three offenses
4th offense: a referral for actions
5th offense: parent/teacher/student conference to discuss classroom behavior with growth plan recommended.

MISSING CLASS
a. Absences
If students know they will be absent in advance, they should make arrangements with their instructor to get the work and the instructor and student can discuss a feasible date for turn in. If students didn’t plan on being absent, they should check the Electronic Magazine calendar for anything missed. All assignments and lessons will be posted there.
Any work due on the day of an unplanned absence is due the very next class period. Students have one day to make up an assignment for each day of absence. It is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor for make-up work and modified due dates. If the student fails to reschedule/discuss modified due dates, the original date will be honored.
If students miss class during specified work days, they must meet with their group and their instructor to determine an appropriate course of action.
If a student is absent on a test day or fails a test or quiz, they are REQUIRED to reschedule with the instructor to retake it within a timely manner.
b. Tardy Policy
If a student shows up after class has started, he or she should walk in quietly and join into the activity. If there is a note, please give it to the instructor quietly. Students are only allowed 3 tardies per class, per semester before consequences occur. (Saturday school, make-up hours, discipline referral, etc.) If students are more than twenty minutes late, it’s an absence. And because Electronic Magazine is a double-blocked course, missing class counts as two absences. SEE TARDY POLICY IN STUDENT HANDBOOK.
