Magazine Section Organization & Brainstorming
It is best to look through professional magazines to grasp the order in which parts appear. Features are generally in the back of the magazine. ASFs appear shortly after the table of contents and letter from the editor. The Contributors page can be at the front or the back, depending on the magazine. All magazines use some type of ladder to organize the magazine spreads.
Use this ladder to plan where the parts might appear. This will evolve over the semester. There is a place to write the page content, as well as a place to write notes about the story/item. Think about the topics your group wants to write about regarding ASFs and features and attempt to organize your spreads in a way that would be beneficial to your readers.
For example, if a group is working on a food magazine, they might brainstorm some feature ideas, like interviewing a restaurant about how they originated and what the restaurant means to the community. Let's tentatively allow 3 pages for the feature layout. On the 4th page, there could be an ASF about the process of starting your own restaurant. Magazines often have smaller articles that relate to longer reads to give readers a break in the text.
Note: MagCloud requires that your page quanity is in multiples of four, so 24, 28, 32, and so on. There is no required amount, but all parts (a-f) must be in the magazine.
